"The most important part of our service is to ensure our clients have a truly delightful summer.”
Jim Stewart, Founder ~ Stewart’s Marine Service
Jim Stewart started Stewart’s Marine Repair in 1980. He originally opened shop at Homewood High & Dry Marina and was there for almost 20 years. At that time he and his wife, Lindsay, had started their family in Truckee, California, but were mostly on the West Shore at the Marina growing their business AND their two girls, who were often at work - right by their sides.
After his first year in business Jim decided he wanted to restore antique wood boats. Lindsay asked him what made him think he could do this as he had always been a motor head. He was sure he could and his first boat, “Courtship II” took 1st place at the Concours d’Elegance that summer. Thus a complete repair and restoration business took off.
Jay Smith started working at the shop in 1990 and began in the “cave” as the "parts guy". He then kept taking on more responsibilities as the girls grew up and Lindsay spent more time with family.
Jim and Lindsay then bought property at Donner Lake with the hopes of opening a storage and repair facility. After six years of trying to get all legal and environmental issues resolved, they decided to sell the property and began looking for a new shop.
"We were fortunate to find a very nice new location in which to expand the business." It was at this point in the business when Jay and Sue Smith became partners in Stewart’s Marine Service Inc. (in 2008).
Three years later they all decided to be a complete service and expanded into the storage industry in order to fully take care of their customers. Stewart’s Marine now has a beautiful, large storage facility and still is a complete repair and restoration company.
